I thought I’d start by saying that I like to write blogs out like this so that I can remember an experience & as time goes by I won’t forget the little details. There are several people who have asked me to post about this past weekend, so this is for those of you who care. Also, this is not bragging. There’s a difference between being appreciative for an experience & wanting to share that experience with others vs. wanting other people to be jealous because you did something they didn’t & wanting to throw it in their face. I’m still in shock that everything happened and so so grateful! I think for the first time Taylor truly realized how many friendships have been created because of her!
Saturday afternoon I received a phone call that Taylor had a special surprise for us after the show and that some other fans would be there as well. At this point I didn’t know who was invited. I didn’t know what it entailed; just that Taylor wanted us there! I was immediately excited, but also sad knowing that probably not all of my friends who were in town for the show would be there. I decided if we were meeting her I’d just wear my Waldo shirt, and didn’t even think of taking something to sign. I even had a pic printed from when I had met her before, but totally forgot to grab it. We arrived at the venue and there were a lot of happy faces & a lot of sad faces. It was immediately obvious who had received word that they’d be meeting up after the show & who wouldn’t. I felt so bad that so many of my friends weren’t getting the surprise & hoped it wouldn’t affect them enjoying the show. Most of us were all dressed as Waldo (this had nothing to do with anyone being selected) & ½ of us were in one pit & ½ in the other. We ended up having a BLAST! We danced & sang & just went crazy. It was so fun! During the show Andrea found out at B stage that some of the girls had been split up from friends, etc. so they were invited to come as well. Unfortunately that still wasn’t all of our friends. L For the most part everyone was being so sweet & supportive & I genuinely wished all of them were going.
Some people have said that they thought we made the list, but that’s just totally not the case. Why would I leave some of my close friends off – even some that were staying at my house & needed to ride home with me afterwards? They had to wait hours for us to be finished. That makes no sense. Also – Some have said that we’re a clique, which also isn’t true. None of us were friends before Taylor. We’ve all met because of her. We’re always adding new friends to our “group.” We’re definitely not exclusive. I met several new people this past week that I now consider friends & know I’ll stay in touch with for here on out. So, no. We aren’t an exclusive clique. We just share a love for Taylor! In fact, for the Waldo outfits Steph Tweeted about it & anyone who wanted to join us was allowed to be part of the group. It was never intended to be a small, exclusive attempt to get anything for doing it. We just thought it would be funny for Taylor to look out & see all of us. It was meant to be sort of an end of tour prank.
After the show we met up in 103 & waited for instructions. I was so excited to see there were some people who had never met Taylor. We were separated into people who had been selected before the show & people who were selected during the show. They did still add a few groups of people like they would during a typical Club Red. The pre-selected people were a pretty good-sized group. There were a lot of people who run huge fan sites on Twitter, Tumblr, etc., some came from a long way, and some attended a large amount of shows during the tour. All of the fans were very deserving! I know there are thousands more who are also deserving, so don’t get me wrong on that!
We sat there for what seemed like forever. I was already getting emotional because we literally saw them tear the stage down & it really began to sink in that this was the last Red Tour show I’d be seeing. We all chatted excitedly wondering what was going to happen from here. They came over & gave us the rules & then took us backstage. We walked quickly to the room that was set up like Club Red! I have had a lot of cool experiences, but what some people may not know is that Kirsten & I have neither ever had T-Party of Club Red. T-Party was designed for people who had never met her, so we knew that was never an option. Then Club Red came along, and being as we both have met her multiple times of course we never TRIED for CR, so this was truly special for us! They told us to go around and take all the pics we wanted until Taylor showed up! We immediately noticed a cake that Taylor had ordered for us. I grabbed a Coke & started taking pics with friends. Ashlee, Kirsten, & I crammed into the photobooth. That was something we had all previously said we wished we could do!! Next thing we knew they were gathering us near the entrance & Andrea came in to chat with us. She thanked us all for coming & told us how sick Taylor was, and that after doing three shows she REALLY needed to rest her vocal chords. She said we were allowed to talk to her as much as we wanted, but that she wouldn’t be talking back to us. Of course Taylor didn’t follow those rules. Lol She chatted away like she always does. Taylor told some fans that she had planned to do something larger scale, but with her being sick decided this would work.
Taylor met with a few other fans before it was our turn. When it was our turn she saw Kirsten, Ashlee, & I & immediately said “I LOVE you guys!!” & Proceeded to hug each of us a ridiculously long amount of time. I said, “Are you sure you weren’t lying about being sick? You sounded flawless!” She was like stop! You’re too sweet. I was so worried about not hitting the high notes! She told us about how she was on 6 different cold meds & she couldn’t feel her throat & that MAYBE tomorrow she’d be able to feel it. We said something about being there every night & Taylor’s like “I KNOW!” She’d looked down & seen us two of the nights, but apparently she knew we were there every night. In reference to the Waldos in the pit she said you guys never stopped bouncing! She loved the costumes! Kirsten asked how Meredith was doing [since we had seen her last.] Taylor was SO cute. She said literally 5 times “She such a GOOD cat!” She went into this story about how Austin keeps trying to talk her into getting another cat, so she can officially be a cat lady & he can make fun of her even more. Her parents don’t want her to get another cat to have to take care of & she said she’s such a good cat, she’s not sure how she’d do with another. I said “Does she have only child syndrome?” haha. Kirsten told her that she lives with 6 cats & Taylor flipped. Her eyes got huge. She was definitely jealous. ;) lol. We made some more small talk. I thanked Taylor for all she’s done & told her that I really appreciated the fact that I know we’ve met her several times, but that she is willing to take her time to see us again. She looked me right in the eyes & said “I ALWAYS want to meet you.” I thanked Taylor for all the wonderful people she’s brought into my life. I motioned around the room & said I have made so many wonderful friends because of you. I started to tear up. . (It had been a very emotional week for me with finding out my grandpa has cancer & my grandma sick as well. I was torn up about my family taking care of them & me having a fun weekend hanging out with friends, but in that moment I knew I was where I needed to be with my friends who have helped me through so much already.) I was like OMG I’m gonna cry I’m so sorry! She’s like no, it’s okay! I said I have so many friends because of her. Then I was like wait… That makes me sound like a loser. I don’t mean I wouldn’t have ANY friends without you, but I have so many wonderful friends BECAUSE of you. She’s like no no it doesn’t! It was so sweet. She knew what I was saying was important to me & she was literally hanging on every word.
SIDE NOTE: A few other people met her that night & showed her pictures of some of us hanging out & also explained how her music, concerts, etc. have brought us together & created life long friendships. I think for the first time she really grasped that SHE was responsible for that. I love Taylor’s music, I love her concerts, I love so much about her, but the thing I’ll never be able to thank her enough is for introducing me to my best friends. It’s so funny when someone says, “How did you guys meet?” I look at them; we share a smile, and then say, “Through Taylor Swift.” I’ve definitely gotten some odd looks after that, but it’s true! If Taylor retired today (I’D BE SO SAD OMG) but I have no doubt that I’d still remain friends with all the wonderful people I’ve met because we share a love for TS! Gena mentioned to me that if you pulled out a map she could literally come up with a name for basically every state & a lot of countries! It’s crazy, but so true! I got to meet Kate from Canada, Hope from Australia, and of course Jenni & Steph from England. I also met Fran who came all the way from Germany! Don’t get me started on states. That could take an entire blog! She was given a gift from everyone who participated in the Waldo outfits saying where we were from, etc. & pics of us hanging out as friends, at her shows, etc. She flipped through several of the pics & really enjoyed it!
We went to take the pic & she said, “Can we get a picture of us all hugging? Will that work?” Then she offered us each cookies. She said they were pumpkin chocolate chip with cream cheese frosting & was SO proud! I said “NOOO!” She said “YESSS.” Haha We started to eat them & she waited for our reactions. I told her it was like the best thing ever. I joked with her “Please tell me we get a dozen of these on the way out?” She was like no. L Actually I’m not sure I have enough for everyone. She said that she just perfected the recipe & Ed & Amos have been eating tons of them. She autographed our items. She wrote “I love you so much” on my ticket.
(When I say we it means one of us asked. I didn’t feel like being specific with all of it, and if I didn’t quote it, then I didn’t remember it 100% exactly & didn’t want to put words in Taylor’s mouth.)
Ashlee & I talked for Andrea for a bit. She remembered us & was sweet at always. We tried to thank her for helping put on the party for us, but she assured us it was ALL Taylor. She said she they were talking Wednesday night & Taylor was like Mom I need to do something special Saturday night to tell them thank you & let them know how much I appreciate them. I know they’ll all be there. I just have to do something. I also told Andrea how special I think it is that Taylor cares enough about fans that she wants to see us again. That some artists don’t care, but it’s so cool that she does. She’s like of course! She loves you guys & is SO thankful for all you do for her! She asked if she’d see us at any more shows. She’s like we have New Zealand coming up… ? Sorry, I can’t fly over there. I wish! Haha. We said hopefully we’d see her soon. We talked to some of the guys on Taylor’s staff & thank them as well. Again, they were like no need to thank us! This was all Taylor. She wanted you guys here. I said I felt horrible with her being so sick! They said I know, but this is how she wanted to spend the last night of her tour! This is exactly what she wanted!
She spent soooo much time with each person/ group. Near the end she finally met with Caylee. We were all kind of bunched together at that point & watching. Caylee told Taylor the funniest story every about Scott Swift trying to give a fan a quarter because he was out of guitar picks. She was just covering her face & shaking her head. It was too funny! They were chatting & someone said to Taylor thank you for giving us Caylee. We’re all like YES! Thank you for Caylee! Everyone started clapping & it was so sweet. Taylor paused for a second & was like wow you really ARE all friends!
While Taylor met with other fans we chatted with each other. Scott Swift insisted I take a piece of cake & it was delicious! He also put down some guitar picks for us to take. He was telling a group of us about Taylor working on new music & being excited about it. We got to talk to Caitlin for a bit. Taylor took her time with everyone & personally handed everyone a cookie. Once she’d met everyone Taylor wanted to take a group picture. She took Jenni’s hat & Steph’s glasses to fit in with the Waldos in the group. One of the girls mentioned they were going to Waffle House after. Taylor got excited like she wanted to go, but decided it would only end in trouble & that she’d better go home & rest. Haha. Can you imagine running into Taylor at Waffle House?! Crazy thought. She thanked everyone again then left.
If you read all of this you deserve a cookie. 9-21-13 you will be remembered! I apologize for anything that didn’t make sense, or any errors. If you have any questions just ask! Thanks for reading. This night will forever be special to me! I’m so thankful that Taylor realizes the beautiful friendships she’s had a part in creating! She truly has brought so many people together; more than she’ll ever realize! I can’t believe it was just over a year ago that Taylor was announcing her first single & album title & now the Red era is nearly over. I’m really sad The Red Tour has made it’s final stop in North America, but I’m so excited that she’s already working on album 5!! I can’t wait to see what 2014 has in store for Taylor!
